The Guest at the ungodly hour

Charlie, bruce lee and the phone kumaris can wait...something more important came up and i just had to add this in my story. and it all started when t moved to the bunk. ofcourse it had to happen...last time she shifted on to the bunk, there was an earthquake in chennai! so this time we were kinda expecting something and so it did happen...we had a guest...at 4:00 am in the morning...on the day of my qt test...i was having this really bad dream when i was woken up by s in this really solemn manner...everything seemed too bright (she had switched on the light hehe) and she just pointed out to the food court...it took few seconds to focus my blurry eyes to that direction...and i saw it...it was also looking at me...grey, pointed nose and a tail...yup a rat!!! yikes! i really didnt know what to do!! i got up quickly and jumped on to the bunk with t...the rat also jumped and went on to sit on my operations text book (eww...) ofcourse we gave our set of screams but since it was like 4 in the morning, the whole of servite was in deep slumber...the rat quickly moved on from my text book (seems like even the rat couldnt 'chew' on that one!) and settled into s's cupboard...and s, being the brave one she was, decided to act...she took this wiper which we had and tried to shoo off the rat...boy it seems so hilarious when i think of it now...but back then it was a moment of panic... it seemed like the rat was planning to settle in her cupboard (mine thankfully was locked) and we werent having any luck in getting rid of it, so we decided to call our asst. warden...god bless her soul...she came up and tried her hand in shooing it off...i did not enter the room as there was no room on the bunk now coz both s n t were there...i was standing on the stairs ready to scoot up just in case the rat came out...but thankfully it didnt...it went through the way it came...through the window on the left side...and to this day the window remains closed...i thanked our asst. warden and she simply said you 3 are like my children, thats why i came...i was so touched that i really didnt know what to say...and so at like 4:30 we 3 were wide awake, shaken by this incident and even laughing in bouts of hysteria thinking about it... s told me that she woke up suddenly to hear a crunching sound in the room...she got up and conjured this vision of me eating biscuits!! (at 4:00 am!! lol!!) so for about 10 minutes she saw this vision while i was blissfully asleep and then it dawned on her that it was not me (voila!) and that was when she realised that there was an intruder in the room...hmm...and that is how this story goes...it was just the beginning of the day and so many things were looming in front of us...our test, the thought of disinfecting the room, (s even had to wash her clothes in her cupboard) and we also had to empty the food court...and i knew i had to add this in my story...of course its part n parcel of servite life alrite!! :)

p.s: the rat must've left coz the food court was pretty empty, it must've actually taken pity on our condition..hehe..
oh n ya the next time t moves to the bunk we are planning to conduct a prayer service for the sake of protecting mankind...hehe..k so thats it for now...will be soon with some other story...ciao

Chennai Showers and Chennai summers

I am thoroughly disappointed :( I had drafted a brilliant post regarding the recent Chennai showers which we had and it just cant be located. And I’m not able to recollect what exactly I had written. Hmm..it doesn’t rain anymore though suddenly it looks very dark and gloomy. I was really excited when it rained. For one, it reminded me of home. Especially the scent of the wet soil on the first rain. And we even had thunder and lightning (thankfully the power didn’t go off as it used to at home!) but what was even more fun was walking through the Loyola campus. The whole scenery was breath taking. It was as if everything was asleep all this while and they just bloomed up. The trees had donned a darker shade of green and the whole place was so calm and serene with the occasional chirping of the birds that was like music to the ears. And as I walked along it drizzled slightly so that made the walk even more pleasant. I wonder whether a picture of it would have done justice to that moment. It might have captured the beauty of the place but not its soul. It actually made me so happy and thankful...that I was alive to see this...that I got an opportunity to be here and experience this...each day on the way to college we are always running quickly and while coming back we are too engrossed in the things to be done that we actually fail to notice these little things around us... now this is one memory that will stay with me I guess... the title of this post btw has been inspired from a book which I had read called “Bombay rains and Bombay girls”. I know I should have written Chennai rains and Chennai guys but this sounded more apt. And by Chennai summers I meant that I got placed for my summers in Chennai which means its “I will servite” all the way...hehe...btw an anonymous R had recently posted a comment “yeh ishq nahin asaan bas itna samajh lijiye....” well Anonymous R I console myself by saying “Ishq hota nahin sabhi keliye, yeh bana hai kisi kisi keliye”..hehe... I have decided to work on my second chapter for ‘I will servite”...it will be called ‘Charlie, Bruce lee and the phone kumaris..will publish it soon..i wanted to add something on this person whom we call as king of bad times. But then maybe some other time...chow for now..

just bored...

ok well am sorry its not i will servite this time pals..that will have to wait i guess...today am just writing for myself...if u ask me why? well..i dunno..just bored i guess...so am sitting in my college library, with plenty of books around me (and yet am hooked on my lappy...i never learn) trying to download the song 'iktara' from wake up sid...i saw the movie yesterday...the visuals are a treat for the eyes (of coz even ranbir includes in it) but the storyline is pretty old, tried and tested...i would have expected much better from kjo...its been around 4 months since i joined liba...cant believe its been such a long time...seems only yesterday i had joined here and got a scare after the preliminary classes..hehe..the second sem timings seems pretty relaxed but the workload is more or less the same...there are plenty of assignments and tests lined up for the next week and diwali is just round the corner...so many things are actually happening around me...some am aware of, some am confused about, some which i need to escape from...this sem has been kind of an eye opener for me tho...somethings caused a heartache tho i quickly got over it...something came as a shock, something which might be a trouble later and somethings came as a pleasant surprise...hmm...lets c whether it will get sorted out...really wanted to go home this weekend but wont be going...sigh..somehow am missing home very much...maybe its coz i have some free time with me now...this post might seem random stuff to u guys..well i did say i was writing for myself...hehe...after coming to liba i dont know whether i have changed...maybe i havent..i'm still the same person yet i know things have changed...ok its getting late..i gotta go now...will blog some other time...ciao...

I Will Servite

I will servite : Part I

3 girls from 3 different parts of India. They join the same college and end up sharing the same room and the rest ...is ‘I will Servite’... sorry guys, due to the hectic schedule and my laziness i had not been able to post stuff but i finally got a chance and the mood to do it..so here we go... but before i begin, a disclaimer: all those characters who may appear in the course of this story are actually alive and in good health. But their names have been changed so as to protect myself from any harm. And like the economic times say I am an unknown source who wishes to remain anonymous so I’m sure u will bear with me. J
Room No. 205
The speciality of room no. 205 is that it was one room for which most of our seniors were vying for and that it should be occupied by us was i guess destiny...now y room no.205? coz its on the first floor and it has two windows. One which opens out to give u a glimpse of this large unoccupied land with a huge tree standing all alone on its side, and which in my opinion is very poetic. And from there we can also see an apartment which looks so cozy that sometimes we wish we were there rather than here. And i also get to see an old uncleji who always sits out in the balcony reading his paper and looking around (actually we always wondered whether he could see us, i even suggested we waved at him so that if he responds we would know that he could see but unfortunately my roomies didn’t feel the same so i dropped the idea). Ok now coming back to the room. It is kinda small for a 3 sharing basis but somehow we have managed to stuff everything in it like 3 beds, one being bunk and the other a normal, single cot. We have named it as the lower berth, upper berth and the royal bed respectively. There is a huge cupboard with four divisions. So after taking 1 slot each, we were left with an extra. So we decided to stock up all our food in it and hence the ‘food court’ came into existence. the fact that it came in very handy is another story. Especially during the rice and sambar days at servite, i practically lived on bourbon and sunfeast biscuits. Of course, we also have 3 study tables, lights, 3 plug points out of which only 1 works and then we have the ‘Nawab’ of 205... Now just imagine...on this hot summer evening, after a really really tiring day, after having walked for more than a km under the hot sun, u finally enter your room. What do u do first? Yes. You switch on the fan. And what does our nawab do? It just whines, moans, groans and finally when its tantrums are over, it decides to rotate. Oh and when I mean ‘rotate’ it means spreading out its wings and doing a slow turn. Like my friend S says, “bhai, hum toh nawab hai, hum toh bas aisa hi chalega”. We look at it, perspiring, panting for breath, wondering when it will start its fast number. But nope. Our nawab, in his laadedaah style and with great panache, just decides to repeat his performance. And it still continues till this date.

The ‘Chudail’ of Servite
Of course, we have one here. One which wears jasmine flowers. That is all we know about her as each time she decides to take her monthly rounds, she just flings the ‘gajra’ into our waste basket. Now why does she do that when there is a main waste basket right at the corner, we don’t know. Maybe she just wants to leave a mark. Or maybe she is just trying to aim properly coz sometimes we find the flowers lying just few inches away from the dust bin. But whatever may the case be, the fact is she has chosen our dust bin to throw her stuff and this is really driving us maaad. But yes, we just sigh and curse her, and take it in the stride...just one of those servite incidents for which u cannot offer a logical explanation when u ask why us??

A new beginning...

Tadaah!!! and am back....once again...hehe...i actually had to search for my own blog thru my brother's blog...and i got to know i had updated it 9 months ago...hehe...i was just lazy and there wasnt much to write about...but now that a new phase has begun in my life, i really felt the need to scribble something up here... recently i had this opportunity to attend a lecture by Mr. Sunil Roberts, the author of 'I will survive'- comeback storiesof a corporate warrior...i havent had the chance to read the book so far but its there in my to-do list...and i was so inspired by his words (and more by the title) that me and my 2 room mates decided that we too will write about our adventures at liba and more importantly our life at servite hostel...and its gonna be called
'I will Servite'-the misadventures of 3 aspiring corporate women...i was really sure that there would be no dearth of topics as life ats servite is very interesting...
and soon enough my room mate suman had compiled her very first chapter for the book "the case of the missing pink chaddi" but unfortunately she does not want it to be posted in the blog...it makes for a very interesting read and i'll try and get it posted somehow...but until then i guess i'll talk about the other stuff thats happening...

hello...i was planning to leave a comment as a reply to the comment that i received but i realised it was getting a bit longer and so i decided i'll post something on it.the poem given below is simply the last thoughts of a man who is about to die.i guess the 9/11 incident is something which we wont forget in the near future.and people still remember the thousands who lost their lives.i just imagined how it would be for a passenger who was in one of those hijacked planes.the people in the tower would have never known what was going to happen to them.but the passengers would have realised that they were going to die.it is when we come face to face with death we realise that there are so many things left undone and unsaid.so many things you wish you had done given a second chance but by then it would be too late.this is just my imagination and there maybe differing views on it but then this is my blog hehe...

Before I Go...

I am dying
yet am not on my deathbed
for am sitting,crouching in fear
awaiting my fearful death
they asked us to put our heads down
the nuzzle of the weapons
ready to slit our throats.
Masked by their robes
their eyes show no mercy
muttering to themselves in some foreign tone.

I am dying
and yet am not on my deathbed
for I'm crossing the seven seas
to reach my final destination
there lies my homeland where I belong
where the sweet smell of the soil after the rain
soothes and comforts our parched soul
the land where lies my kith and kin
for whom I toil deprived of love, grief and sin.

I an dying
and yet I do not know what to do
for my life has taken a different course
I think about my dear wife
the lovely lass I will never see
I think about the child of mine
the little one whom I have never seen
counting the hundred days and nights
to see a father he has never known.

I am dying
and I know there is no way out for me
I fold my hands and say a prayer
to that Unknown One whom I had never believed.
Tomorrow you'll know about the attack on a tower
Tomorrow you'll know the lives that were lost,

But before I go
I want to tell you my dear wife
I am sorry for leaving you alone in this life
all those promises I have vowed to you
do know, that till my last breath I will love you
my dear son,the apple of my eye
I could never be the father you wished and liked
but I wanted you to be happy
for that is all I care and maybe
someday I hope that you will understand

I bid adieu to this weary life
deprived of love and care of my wife and child
the plane is rushing forward, ready to attack
I hear the screams and wails of my fellow passengers
let me tell you dear ones, you should always know
that I will always love you wherever I go
let me tell you,I am sorry, sorry for everything
for you must know it
before I go...
