Mirage

He wandered along the long path
His feet leaving imprints behind
He knew he was reaching nearer
For he could see the heavenly light

He was all alone in the dark
And yet he was not afraid
For he knew the holy light
Would lead him to the One who was Great

He had left his kith and kin
Away from the land of evil and sin
To embark upon a new journey
On a quest for peacefulness and salvation

He remembered his glorious past,
Of the skin which he had finally shed
Of his thirst for name and fame
Which he believed was the path to glory

But nay! It was merely an illusion
Like the mirage that appears
Before a thirsty man as he
Travels under the scorching sun

It was merely an illusion
That covered him like a thick veil
For even then his mind had not attained peace
When he pursued his dreams and greed

But now he was finally free
From the chains that had bound him
He could see the light far away at the horizon
Beckoning him to follow it
He knew it was not a mirage
For at last his destination had come
Far away from the land of illusion
To the land of illumination

He could feel himself dissolving
In that spell binding light
And he knew that at last
He had attained enlightenment.
